Alex de Angelis led the intermediate class for the second time this weekend at the Iveco Australian Grand Prix, ahead of Márquez and Neukirchner.

The JiR Moto2 Team rider led a Saturday morning session at Phillip Island with a time of 1’34.336, an improvement of one tenth over his best time of Friday, but still three tenths behind the best time of the weekend set by Stefan Bradl (Viessmann Kiefer Racing). Cooler temperatures and a stronger wind affected the times for many in the field, though around a quarter were still able to step up their pace from yesterday.

New title leader Marc Márquez (Team CatalunyaCaixa Repsol) made up for lost time following a dramatic Friday, which saw the rookie strike the back of Ratthapark Wilairot (Thai Honda Singha-SAG) at the end of the morning session, then circulated on an older Suter chassis down in 17th in FP2. Márquez stepped up his pace by eight tenths to rank second behind the Sammarinese, though he will have to start Sunday's Grand Prix from the back of the grid after incurring a one minute penalty that will be applied to his afternoon qualifying session.

Max Neukirchner (MZ Racing) made his first appearance in the top ten with a time of 1’34.908 to rank third, with Mika Kallio (Marc VDS Racing) reappearing in the top five and Thomas Lüthi (Interwetten Paddock Moto2) taking fifth for his highest position of the weekend thus far.

Claudio Corti (Italtrans Racing) maintained his presence in the top ten while Kenan Sofuoglu (Technomag-CIP) was one of the few to improve his time place seventh. Bradley Smith (Tech 3 Racing), Michele Pirro (Gresini Racing Moto2) and Mattia Pasini (Ioda Racing Project) completed the top ten for the morning.
